Disrespect

You know what is really unattractive and frustrating to me?

The blatent disrespect of our current president. I don't care whether or not you like George W. or agree with anything he stands for. I really don't even mind if you say you're ready for him to be out of office.

But for crying out loud, he is STILL the president and doesn't that office deserve some respect?

I humbly offer my opinion-- respect is something to be earned, and unfortunately, there is a significant portion of our population, myself included, who simply do not feel that Bush's performance and actions as President earn him much respect at all.

(not meaning to pick any kind of fight-- just humbly disagreeing.)

Morninglight - I do appreciate your humble way of disagreeing and I'm not picking a fight either.
However, I do not believe respect is something to be earned. There are simply certain people, or positions, which are to be respected. (Romans 13:1)

For example, bosses, principles, husbands (Eph.5:33) and parents. No, not every one of the people who hold these positions have earned respect, so to speak. But how would society work if no one respected authority?

I agree that the President of the United States deserves respect. No matter what I think of the person in office (no matter what anyone thinks)...whether we agree or disagree with the policies, plans, practices or otherwise... The fact that the majority of our country elects someone for this position demands respect. (It's an honorable position by definition!) The President is a leader of our country, and it's the appropriate, patriotic thing to do. Period.
I did not like a certain individual who was "the man in charge" not long ago, but I respected him as our President. I don’t know much about the Queen of England, but I respect her position. I respect my parents (and demand respect from my child) ... but not b/c anyone earned it from anyone. And in every classroom I ever entered or any job situation I ever encountered, I showed respect to authority, whether they earned it from me or not. Why? It's the right thing to do.

I totally agree! It frustrates me even more when people complain and disrespect him...then I ask if they voted and they say "no, I didn't have time that day"...buddy-you have NO ROOM TO COMPLAIN!!! You didn't even vote!

An issue that has annoyed me greatly the entire time he has been president. I was very much opposed to Clinton but I didn't make jokes about killing him or any of that, it is illegal and wrong. I don't see why people seem to think it is ok to say such things about Bush. Politics is becoming way too much like hollywood/celebrity, all about the drama and less about the real world. Sigh, only one more month and we won't have to listen to it anymore and will just have to live with whomever gets elected. May the lesser of two evils win!
