I started couponing about 2 months ago. It has become a game, a challenge, like everyone says it has to...if you want to stick with it.
This isn't going to be a long explanation of how to coupon. If you're interested in that, I recommend this site. It's awesome and, really, it's all I use. (Check the tutorials at the top right of the page). One thing you'll see here is how beneficial it is to stockpile - buying things are their rock bottom price.
This is a game for you guys!
Below you'll see a picture of the items I bought recently at Publix and a list of everything in the picture just to be fair (in case you can't see everything).
- 1 baguette
- 1 bag of Doritos
- 1 box of Lucky Charms
- 1 box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch
- 2 pouches of Uncle Ben's Ready Rice
- 2 pouches of Fisher's trail mix
- 2 boxes of Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix
- 2 blocks of Kraft cheese
- 1 box of Uncrustables (are these gross? never tried them before)
- 6 cans of Progresso soup
- 6 cans of Green Giant corn
- 1 can of Pam
- 1 carton of Egg Beaters
- 1 gallon of Publix organic milk
- 1 pkg. of strawberries
- 1 pkg. of carrots
- 8 bags of Green Giant Steamers
Total before coupons and tax = $91.37
The challenge is to guess what I paid out of pocket, before tax for all this stuff. I'll send the winner a shiny, new $5 gift card to Starbucks. (Whoever guesses closest, over or under, wins!)
When I announce the winner, I'll tell you how much I spent and how much I saved. So fun, right?!
You've got until next Monday, March 8 at noon CST to guess. (I'm looking for dollars and cents here). I'll post the winner sometime that afternoon.

how does giving our starbucks money away....save money?
love me
spent $51.84
I'm horrible, horrible about using coupons. Even getting started!! It makes me feel very overwhelmed to even think about it.
My plan is, though, to 1) get the newspaper delivered on Wed/Sun 2) start wrapping my head around it 3) begin couponing before Quarter gets here.
I've got 4 months.
So, that said, my guess is $34.56.
I like Bob's comment, by the way. And good for you being frugal!
Hmmm, okay, now I'm going to guess that you spent $49.07.
And I'm wondering if the right guess will be determined "Price is Right" style - closest without going over? Or closest on either side? :) Not that it matters a whole lot, just curious.
Hhhhmmm... I'm gonna say $37.29
I say $54.26. BTW, have you ever heard of E-mealz.com? We've been able to save a lot of money on groceries using that meal planning service.
ummm $41.50
I guess you spent $11.14. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're VERY good at the coupon game. :)
And for the record, I kind of think Uncrustables are delicious.
OK I am guessing again at about 67.83.

i'm going to say that they had to give you $.10
$62.00
I use that website for coupons every week, too! It makes couponing much more manageable.
I'm guessing $64.48.
i am going with....
$39.78
hey greta!!
we've been doing the coupon thing too and it's amazing!!!
i'll guess....$16.00
can't wait to find out!!

$42.50
$10.52
$32.94
Hmmm...that is hard. I have been couponing here since June last year and haven't paid for toilet paper since august. Does publix double coupons? If so then I would guess that you spent $13.40. If they don't double then my guess is $26.80. I have a great "tutorial" document on couponing with TONS of websites where you can print coupns, I will send it to you.
So... who won?
Seriously...I'm on the edge of my seat! I just went to the store today and my total before coupons was $130ish and I left paying only $46! I want to know how you did!!!
