Poop Goes in the Potty - Take 3

Cue the pit of hell.

We got home around 4:30 to a house that had not been air-conditioned all week. It was 89° on the main level and 91° upstairs. Ninety-ONE. In the house. Neither of the boys had napped so we put Grey down in the basement bedroom for his nap. That sort of worked. We could tell Sam had to poop so we were both within about 4 ft. of him for an hour or two. Yep, an hour or two.

There was much resistance when he would grab his bottom, look at us pleadingly and we'd take him and put him on the potty. I'm talking he would straighten his whole body, lift off the toilet and yell. Bob and I were juuuust about done when he suggested we let Sam sit on the Lightning potty and watch a short movie on the portable DVD player. Bob went to cut the grass and I fed Grey dinner. I'd occasionally go check on Sam and he was just sitting there watching. At some point, I heard "I pooped. I pooped!!! Mommy, I pooped in the potty!" If you've potty trained, you can imagine my excitement. I was laughing I was so excited. We ran outside to tell Bob. "Stop cutting!! Stop cutting!" Sam kept yelling. Bob ran in to check out the poop and was equally excited. And then we went to get Shave Ices.

After we got the Shave Ice reward, which was really a reward for everyone since the temp. in the house still was around 85°, Bob and I decided we needed a different approach for bribes. We got this 18-wheeler car carrier that came with lots of little cars inside.

The deal is, Sam gets a car each time he poops in the potty and when he gets ten, he gets the white truck at the bottom. We haven't quite decided how he gets the black truck, but it'll be something like having a few days without any accidents.

We also started a sticker chart. I still don't know if he's that excited about the sticker chart but it helps me keep track of things.

Take 4 includes a drastic swing in the poop pendulum. It'll be up tomorrow.
