IVs, Antibiotics and Steroids, Oh My!

So I alluded to it in my last post...we've been dealing with some stuff. That stuff namely being that Bob has been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Things started getting really bad about three weeks ago. So, as you can imagine, blogging hasn't been high on my priority list.

Bob has been in the hospital since Tuesday afternoon. There was talk of him going home today but after last night, it doesn't look like that's going to happen. We are hoping to go home soon but we don't want to get home and have to come right back.

This has been a pretty difficult week. Seeing my husband so miserable and just not himself is tough. Not having our family all together has been one of the worst parts. (I'm staying in the hospital with Bob and my mom is in town taking care of Sam - which has been such a huge help).
We try to get Sam in here at least once a day to visit but you can imagine how well that goes...just imagine one very active 15-month old, one fairly small hospital room, an IV pole with lots of cords hanging down, one bed with buttons to push and handles to pull and the need to be sort of quiet...since we're in the hospital. Anyway, it's not exactly a conducive environment for Sam. So, the visits are short and sometimes kind of wild. Bob and I both really miss him and it's hard when he leaves or when I leave him (I've been going home each day to try and take a nap, shower and hang out with Sam for a little while).

We are very thankful for all the people who are praying for us. We're also seeing some improvement in Bob from the meds he is on. And like I said earlier, my mom being able to stay and take care of Sam has taken a huge load off my shoulders.

Honestly, we're really just ready to be on the other side of this having a hard time remembering how bad it was.

Greta, we have been praying for you guys. If Sam needs a playdate, and your mom needs a rest, I can easily pick him up after dropping the older 2 off at school and he can play with Graci :) Let me know if you need anything at all...

I'm so sorry to hear this. Rich and I will definitely be praying for your family.
My mom actually suffered from that twice...once in 2002 and 2005. I hope Bob is able to return home soon.

Oh my, Greta! That's horrible. We have a friend who has battled this for years! So rough. My husband gets symptoms of (ulcerative?) colitis when he's on certain face medicines or arythrimycin. It's so painful. And a friend of mine (a mother of three children) suffered from a medicine-induced colitis and said it was worse or similar to child birth contractions.

This is quite a trial. May the Lord bless you through this and give you strength for the moment. May you see His hand, and more importantly trust Him no matter. I will pray for your family.

Much sympathy coming at you from Minneapolis!!!
