Turf Wars in the Nursery

My apologies for the lack of posting recently. We've been dealing with some stuff here at the house. Stuff that takes precedence over blogging, sooo please forgive. Ok, thanks.

This morning, I worked in the nursery at church. Doing so give me the opportunity to watch Sam interact with a larger group of kids than he normally does. I've noticed a few things over the months I've been working in there but here are a few that really stood out today:
Sam is completely content to play by himself, even when there are multiple other kids in the room. He's busy...loading and unloading things usually.
He is more verbal than I thought.
He's a little bit of a bully. (And he's not bully-sized).

Let me expound on that last one a little. It's very natural or kids this age to rip take things out of each others' hands. It's also natural for this little exchange to go back and forth until one kid submits, basically.

Well, in the nursery group today, my kid was the bully. I didn't notice many instances where the other kids were taking toys away from each other, but my kid? When he did decide to leave his loading and unloading mission, my kid was taking toys from just about everyone.

And the thing is, he's not a beefy kid. He's not bully-sized. I made the comment to the other nursery worker, as I was noticing that Sam looked like a bully-in-training, that he's just gonna end up getting his tail kicked if he doesn't cut it out.

Bully behavior - Bully size = Getting your tail kicked

In all honesty, this little kid just gets sweeter every day. Recently he has started giving us "loves" (hugs) without us asking. That may sound like no big deal, but it IS a big deal! He's starting to express tenderness and care for us. It just warms my heart.
Bob hasn't been feeling well recently and was laying on the couch tonight. Sam went over to Bob's head 3 or 4 times and layed his head down too. That's how he gives "loves"...leans his sweet little head down, or into your should. I love it!

Oh my gosh, was Averi being a bully too? :) Sam's never been like that when I was in there. It's probably just because ya'll have been cooped up at home lately. Glad your finally feeling better.

It is fun to observe your own child in the nursery, isn't it?

I second Jaci - Sam has never struck me as a bully when I've been in there either. Maybe he was just trying to show off for his Woman - Mommy. :)

I just had to type "funtshis" in the word verification box. That sounds like a word that Snoop Dogg would create. . .I don't even want to think about what the meaning would be.

Glad to hear you two haven't witnessed him bullying ;).

And Jaci, Averi is probably the furthest thing from a bully!!

It is SOOO sweet when they start showing affection, isn't it? Anja gives "hugs" much like you described Sam's affection: laying her head on your shoulder (or on her own and then walking toward you, which looks hilarious). And now she kisses and gives "nosies" too.

Oh, that is so sweet...
The "lovey" part, not the bully part.

I love that my niece gives "hugs and cuddles" freely now. When she first learned about hugs and kissies that job was delegated to whatever stuffed animal or toy she was holding! Part of me was sad when she outgrew that phase but the rest was so happy to get a hug or kiss from her and not an inanimate object, hehe! Kids are so funny and cute.
