Is There a Sweet Spot?

Is there a time where I'll be between wanting these opposites for my kids?
The first of each is stuff we're dealing with now. The second is what I expect to be dealing with in a few years.

Sometimes I just wonder which I prefer.
Stay in bed. For crying out vs. Get out of bed already! You can't sleep until noon.

Eat your food. And I mean eat something other than cheesesticks, raisins, crackers and fruit snacks. vs. You're costing me WAY too much in groceries. Isn't it time for you to get a job?!

Annnnd, that's another time out. Go to your room, close the door, sit on your bed and don't make any noise or look at books. vs. Please come out of your room. You spend way too much time up there!

You don't need me to help with everything. vs. Don't you need my help at all anymore?

Wipe your nose, wash your hands, brush your hair. Come on, these are basic personal grooming issues. vs. You don't need to spend SO much time primping in the bathroom.

I can't hold you all the time. vs. Spend some time with me and tell me what's going on. I'm not as big of a dork as you think.

Well, maybe I am that big of a dork but you, my children, haven't always felt that way.
I guess I should just do my very best to enjoy each and every phase and struggle.

Aw, that makes me miss you guys even more! Just spent the night in my old room in Snellville... lots of memories ran through my mind, but I'd like to offer you some encouragement that after all the opposites we level out and become adults and friends with our parents. You've only got about 20 more years til Sam'll come around. :)

Believe me, even with all the will look back on this time with fond memories. They grow up so very fast..enjoy them now...through all the snot, poop, crying and whining..this too shall pass and you will wonder where the time went. I love you and all your boys (including Bob) so very much!MM

That is such a good point, Greta. It's so easy to wish the time away and want the opposite of whatever stage we are in. Oh man it is going so fast. I think the sweet spot is all those cute little boys you've got running around...minus the bad. :-)
